This course provides interactive, self-paced, online training in the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), retirement, and financial planning. Learn how to build your savings and how to balance risk and return as you invest for your short-, intermediate-, and long-term goals.

Complete a personal financial plan guided by Debbie Mason, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional. Estimate your Federal retirement and enter other income sources and savings into your plan. Calculate potential savings growth to see if you need to save more.

Learn about risks and returns of cash, bonds, stocks, and international investments and their related TSP funds (G, F, C, S, and I). Learn how to balance risk and return, how to reduce investment risk, and how to choose and allocate investments for short-, intermediate-, and long-term goals. Compare benefits of tax-saving accounts (e.g., TSP, IRAs, TSP Roth 401(k) coming in 2012). Evaluate the TSP L funds and rollover options to and from the TSP.

This course is for employees in the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS): Employees hired after January 1, 1987, OR those who switched from CSRS to FERS. Put Money and Time to Work. This course is for employees in the Special Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS Special): FERS Employees are those hired after January 1, 1987, OR those who switched from CSRS to FERS. Special FERS employees include Firefighters, Law Enforcement Officers, Air Traffic Controllers, Military Reserve Technicians, members of Congress, and Congressional employees.

For military members in High-3 Average Retirement System (High-3)

For Members of the Military who first entered Service on or after September 8, 1980, and before August 1, 1986; or who first entered Service after August 1, 1986, and chose to revert to the High-3 retirement plan by not accepting the Career Status Bonus.

For military members in CSB/Redux Retirement System (CSB/Redux)

For Members who first entered Service after August 1, 1986, and chose to receive a $30,000 Career Status Bonus at 15 years.
